According to a national study undertaken by Steiner AG, a major Swiss construction company, 9 out of ten employees prefer to work from home following the easing of COVID restrictions. This has significant implications for commercial and residential property values.
The results: 91% of survey participants advised that they prefer to work from home on an ongoing basis. Many employees want the best of both worlds: the freedom of the home office as well as the option to work in a central office location with their own work station. (Read more in the Press Release)
What does this desire mean for the construction of new residential and commercial buildings, in the city as well as in the countryside? Central, urban workplaces will continue to be in demand, while demand for offices in peripheral locations will likely decline. Planners will be required to come up with even more creative solutions in the future. On the other hand, the acceptance of home offices could also make peripheral residential locations more attractive.
